Career Orientation

Explore. Engage. Experience.

DUEL's career orientation process accompanies a young person from self-discovery to real professional experience. Our approach combines career orientation, work-based learning and dual-education principles: learning is connected to two environments — the educational setting and the real workplace.

The three stages, step by step

Stage 01

Explore

With a career guidance psychologist you map your interests, strengths and values.

This stage produces the participant's personal career portfolio — the foundation for everything that follows.

Informed Career Choice

The Compass is the documented outcome of the three stages, not a fourth learning stage.

  1. 01

    Stage 01

    Explore

With the support of a career guidance psychologist, the participant maps:

    • interests
    • strengths
    • values
    • abilities
    • skills in development
    • preferred working environment
    • possible career directions

This stage produces the participant's personal career portfolio — the foundation for everything that follows.

  2. 02

    Stage 02

    Engage

The participant joins the process of building the skills the labour market needs. The stage includes:

    • self-paced learning units
    • practical courses
    • in-person workshops
    • team assignments
    • communication and collaboration skills
    • exploring workplace culture
    • developing professional skills

Each successfully completed learning unit earns a badge. Badges show progress in a gamified way and unlock the next opportunities: company tours, exploration of different sectors, meetings with professionals and exposure to corporate culture.

  3. 03

    Stage 03

    Experience

Based on the participant's career portfolio, badges and interests, DUEL organises:

    • technical and mock interviews
    • individual and sector mentoring
    • the chance to observe a professional at work
    • practical assignments
    • workplace scenario try-outs
    • internships

The stage results in a career direction tested through experience, professional feedback and a plan for the next steps in education, internship or employment.

The participant completes the program with a finished career portfolio, a DUELian timeline and a clear plan for the next steps.

How we work

The program is delivered by:

We do not choose a profession for a young person. We create the conditions for them to discover, explore and test their own path in practice.

Learning badges

Progress you can see

A badge certifies a specific skill or completed learning outcome — never attendance alone. Gamification stays restrained: progress, achievement, discovery.

How progress works

  1. Learning unit
  2. Completed task
  3. Learning badge
  4. Unlocked opportunity
  5. Self-reflection
  6. Portfolio update

Pick a badge to see its criteria, evidence and what it unlocks

Communication

Clear speech and active listening

Criteria
Learning unit completion and a practical workshop exercise
Evidence
Completed task and mentor feedback
Unlocks
Meetings with professionals

DUEL Compass

Your whole journey in one portfolio

The DUEL program concludes with the participant's personal compass: a finished career portfolio documenting the whole journey. It shows where they started, what they discovered about themselves, which skills they developed, which careers and companies they explored, what experiences they completed and what comes next.

  1. Where you came from
  2. What you gathered
  3. Where you are going
  • Self-discovery — strengths, interests, values
  • Completed learning units and badges
  • Transferable and professional skills with evidence
  • Company tours and professional contacts
  • Mentoring, interviews, workplace observation, internships
  • Self-reflection and feedback after every activity
  • A chosen direction and a concrete next-step plan

The DUELian timeline

The timeline is a growing personal record: each completed activity adds a dated milestone, badge or evidence card.

  1. Discovery
  2. Learning unit
  3. Learning badge
  4. Company tour
  5. Workshop
  6. Mentoring
  7. Interview
  8. Experience
  9. Next step

The foundation

Work-based learning, in plain words

The approach rests on work-based learning and dual-education principles — here is what they mean at DUEL.
